Description:

This waterbird is very similar to Eurasian Spoonbill, but is smaller, has shorter legs and black facial skin. It can be found in Macau from November to April, at Cotai wetland and Lotus bridge wetland.

Description: This large waterbird (80-93 cm) is all white except for its dark legs and black bill with a yellow tip. He has a crest in the breading season. Can be found in Macau in winter time.

English Name: Little Grebe

Chinese Name: 小鸊鷉

Family: Podicipediae

Description:

The little grebe is a small waterbird (23-29 cm in length) with a fluffy rear end and yellow gape. In the summer, adults have a rufous neck that is replaced by a brownish one in the winter. This is a resident species in Macau who occurs in lakes, swamps and reservoirs.

English Name: Eurasian Teal

Chinese Name: 綠翅鴨

Family: Anatidae

Description:

Small dabbling duck with 34-38 cm in length. The males have a brownish-red and green head and a grey body, while the females are mainly brown. It occurs in Macau as a winter visitor and can be found in lakes, estuaries, rivers and marches.

Species: Anas querquedula

English Name: Garganey

Chinese Name: 白眉鴨

Family: Anatidae

Description:

Small dabbling duck with 37-41 cm length. The male has a brown head and breast, with a white broad crescent over the eye. The female can be confused with the Eurasian teal female, but the garganey female has stronger face markings. It can be found in the winter at Cotai wetland.

Species: Elanus caeruleus

English Name: Black-winged Kite

Chinese Name: 黑翅鳶

Family: Accipitridae

Description:

This kite has 31-37 cm in length. Legs and feet are yellow and the plumage are mostly white underparts and dark-grey upperparts. In Macao, his specie has occasionally be seen (July and October).
