Description:

Medium-sized Skink, up to 20 cm in total length, with smooth and glossy scales. The dorsal color varies from dark brown to black and have two prominent white stripes and two thinner white lateral stripes extending from snout to tail. These four stripes merge with the brilliant blue of the tail. It can be found in dry shrub and woodland.

Description:

This turtle has a long, flat, brown carapace with tree distinctive black longitudinal stripes. The plastron is mainly black with a yellow border. The underside of the neck, limb sockets and the underside of the limbs and tail are pink-orange. This is a semi-aquatic species and is considered Critically Endangered with extinction by the IUCN.

Description:

This is a small (35–52 mm head to tail lengh), dark brown bat with no fur on its tail membrane and a wingspan of 180-240 mm. It have usually a single offspring in June or July. The young are fed on their mother’s milk until, within three weeks of birth, they are able to make their first flights and begin foraging for food.  In summer it frequently roost in crevices in buildings and trees.

Description:

Non-venomous snake with 120-150 cm long, but can grow up to 180 cm. It has very large eyes and is olive-brown to brown above and pale below. It occurs in agricultural or forest areas, particularly grassy banks of reservoirs and edges of cultivated fields and ponds.

English Name: Large Brown Cicada

Family: Cicadidae

Description:

This is one of the largest Cicadas found in Macau. They are bownish black and can be distinguished from a similar species (Cryptotympana mandarina) by is rounded male operculum. They can be found in Taipa and Coloane from May to August.

Description:

This large bee can reach 2,5 cm in length. The body is all black while the wings have metalic colors under sunlight. Males can be distinguished from females because they have a grey patch on the thorax. This species nest only in bamboom stems and can be observed feeding from flowers in urban parks throughout spring and summer.

Description:

This blood sucking insect has around 2,5 cm in length. It is brown in color with q orange-red margin on outer edge of abdomen, extending horizontally between segments. This is a cosmopolitan species and it is frequently associated to rodents.

This large cricket (about 37-44 mm) is yellowish brown in color, has long antennae, a large, squared head and a stout body. It dig a hole of about 30-60 cm depth where it just go out at night.  Males can produce sound. Usually found at the edge of meadows.
